When dealing with modern Jaguar/Land Rover vehicles, precise knowledge is crucial. Fortunately, here at Precision Remapping, we excel in this area!
Many of the newer Jaguar models come with a power-saving feature. This means that if you place the key on the central console and press the start button to initiate ignition, the ignition may turn off after approximately 8-10 minutes as the vehicle enters power-saving mode. This is far from ideal when attempting to write a file to an ECU. If this happens midway through the process, the ECU may be permanently damaged.
The safest approach for ECU writing is to disconnect the ECU and perform the writing process in "bench mode."
In some vehicles, this process is straightforward. For example, the majority of Mercedes vehicles have the ECU easily accessible when you open the bonnet. On the other hand, some manufacturers, such as Volvo, tend to make your life more challenging by hiding and protecting the ECU.
Once the ECU is removed from the vehicle or at least made accessible, it can be pinned up, read, and written in bench mode.
To start the bench process on the F-Pace, the first step is to disconnect the battery located in the boot. Following that, the ECU can be disconnected. In the case of the F-Pace, the ECU is situated on the N/S (Near Side) of the vehicle, under the scuttle panel. Removing it is not possible as it's tucked away behind the ABS pump. With some delicate manoeuvring, the connectors can be removed, and the ECU can be pinned up. This operation can be daunting for the faint-hearted, but it's essential for the remapping process on these models.
